AIA St. Louis will host a Chapter Members-only meeting at the 12.7 acre campus of the National Building Arts Center located in the Metro East region of St. Louis. Irreplaceable pieces of ornament that once graced the facades of urban structures in American cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia, St. Louis, New York and others are housed, protected, and cataloged in 13 historic open-air buildings of the site’s former steel foundry. NBAC’s mission is to promote public engagement with architectural artifacts and documentation archives of historical significance and thereby lead to a fuller discussion of the American built environment, with particular emphasis on the story of architecture’s allied arts, once indispensable to its achievements but rarely mentioned in academic context today. Following the walking tour of the immense collection of legacy building elements, attendees will head indoors to the archive and library building for a viewing and presentation of publications and drawings from the eras during which the collection’s historic elements were new. Schedule: Gates Open: 10:45 a.m. (Recommended arrival by attendees) Program : 11:05 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Refreshments: 12:30 – 1:00 p.m.
