Speaker

Dean Stephanie Lin

The School of Architecture

Stephanie Lin is a designer and educator, and the founder of design practice Present Forms based in Brooklyn, NY. Since 2021, she has served as the Dean of the School of Architecture founded by Frank Lloyd Wright, now based at Arcosanti and Cosanti in Arizona. Her recent work has bridged practice and pedagogy — in the Spring of 2022, she organized and designed the exhibition Organic at The School of Architecture’s Arcosanti campus, probing the multiple possible meanings of the term “organic” for architects and designers today; in the Fall of 2021, she organized a guest workshop and exhibition of 1:1 renderings with students at Syracuse Architecture. Lin is a member of Office III, a design collective co-founded with Sean Canty and Ryan Golenberg, and based across New York, Boston and San Francisco. In 2017 the three were finalists in the MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program and completed the Governors Island Welcome Center in New York, NY that same year. Lin’s work has been exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art (New York, NY), Storefront for Art and Architecture (New York, NY), The National Academy of Design (New York, NY) The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (New York, NY), A+D Architecture and Design Museum (Los Angeles, CA), cneai= (Paris, France), and a number of universities. She is the 2023 recipient of the Civitella Ranieri Architecture Fellowship.

Overview: This seminar will explore the core values – Learning By Doing, Material Experimentation, and Immersive Learning - of The School of Architecture (TSOA) founded by Frank Lloyd Wright, now based at Arcosanti and Cosanti. These principles, incorporating public health, safety and welfare, are seen in recent and current projects at TSOA. A number of areas will be covered including a brief history of the school’s pedagogy, recent priorities and approaches to social and environmental topics, current projects, and the vision for the future of TSOA. Within the current projects of this NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board) accredited program are design-build Shelter projects, the distinctive co-curriculum, service learning work, immersive storytelling, exhibitions and publication.
