Scholarships

Anyone wishing to donate to the AIA St. Louis Chapter Scholarship Fund either to memorialize or honor, please send donation to AIA St. Louis, 911 Washington Avenue, Suite 100, St. Louis, MO 63101. The family or honoree will be notified of your kind gesture. AIA St. Louis Scholarship Fund is a 501 c 3, and donations are an IRS tax deductible donation.

AIA St. Louis Scholarship Fund offers several programs for St. Louis residents for scholarships, listed below.

Please call the Chapter office at 314-621-3484 with questions you might have regarding your availability for application. Please note that scholarship funding is available only for third year and above, and post graduate study, at an accredited school of architecture.

The Ranft Scholarship
Named in honor of AIA St. Louis architect, Ralph Ranft, for students in fifth year of study or graduate studies. Maximum awards are: Washington University $12,000; Drury College, $6,500; University of Kansas, $6,500; Kansas State University, $6,500.00. Candidates must be nominated by faculty member. Application deadline is February 15th of each year. Please submit five (5) copies: application (see below), essay on career goals, three letters of recommendation and current/complete transcript.

The Kassabaum Scholarship
Named in honor of AIA St. Louis architect, George E. Kassabaum, funded only for graduates of Washington University. Deadline and application identical to Ranft process. Maximum awards is $1,500.00.

The Wischmeyer Scholarship
Named in honor of AIA St. Louis architect, Kenneth E. Wischmeyer, funded for fourth and fifth year students at the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and Drury College, on a rotating basis. Deadline and application process identical to Ranft process. Maximum award is $3,000.00.

The St. Louis Chapter Award
Offered to third, fourth and fifth year of undergraduate or graduate studies. Offered to St. Louis metropolitan residents attending any accredited school of architecture. Deadline for application is June 1st of each year, for the following school year; interviews in July. Please submit five copies: application (see below), three letters of recommendation, and complete/current transcript.

The Masonry Institute, Bricklayers Local No. 1 of MO & the Mason Contractors Association Scholarship
Offered by the above cited organizations with cooperation of AIA St. Louis Scholarship Fund. Requirements are the same as those for the St. Louis Chapter Award, with the exception that eligibility is limited to students in the following Missouri counties: Lincoln, Crawford, Franklin, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. Louis, St. Louis City and Warren.

Requirements: Five copies of the following must be submitted:

  • AIA St. Louis scholarship application (see below)
  • One (1) letter of recommendation
  • Complete and current transcripts

Additional: Applicants are required to bring examples of their work to the interview and be prepared to discuss their work. Expensive reproduction techniques are not required.
